Residency Requirements
In Massachusetts, filing requirements for divorce vary depending on the circumstances of the case. If the ground for divorce occurred within the state, then either spouse must be a current resident of Massachusetts.
If it is impossible to prove that the ground for divorce occurred in the state, one of the parties must be a resident of Massachusetts for at least one year before filing for divorce.
Also, the plaintiff should file for divorce in the county where he/she lives.
